Tours - Brightblack Morning Light debut Australian tour in April

On the eve of Brightblack Morning Light's first Australian tour, founder Nathan Shineywater has announced that this will be the last Brightblack Morning Light tour and the debut of his new musical identity, Berry Shadows.
The new project Berry Shadows finds our man Shineywater deep in "freak" exploration and psychedelic spirit anthems. The first unofficial Berry Shadows shows took place in 2009 in San Francisco and Humboldt County, California, opening for Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions. Berry Shadows is currently recording with Hope Sandoval, Colm O'Ciosoig (My Bloody Valentine/Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions) and Daniel Higgs (Lungfish), and will release a 7" vinyl single soon, a collaborative release between Mistletone Records and Hearted Hand Limited.
Shineywater is originally from Alabama, yet has lived for years in the rural American west, high in the mountains, mesas and deserts and usually "off the grid, against coal power". Since 2004 he has performed his own freaky music with artists on special evenings, such as: Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions, Joanna Newsom, Os Mutantes, Vashti Bunyan, My Bloody Valentine, White Magic, Lungfish, Daniel Higgs, Zomes, Ashford & Simpson, Laurie Anderson Curation Of Brooklyn Academy Of Music 150th Anniversary, members of Antibalas, members of Hot 8 Brass Band, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Papa M, Lavender Diamond, Devendra Banhart, Yoko Ono, Glasser, Fursaxa, Endless Boogie, ATP curation by Slint, ATP Vs Fans, ATP curation by My Bloody Valentine, ATP Stage @ Barcelona Primevera, as well as Arthur Ball & Arthur Festival, Quiet Quiet Ocean Spell & Quiet Quiet Forest Spectrum (curated by Shineywater @ Henry Miller Memorial Library, Big Sur).
Brightblack Morning Light (formerly known as Brightblack and previously, rainYwood, and now moving towards the new incarnation of Berry Shadows) is a band based in New Mexico, specialising in permutations of folk rock and psychedelic music; the work of ND Shineywater and an ever-changing & rotating touring party of old friends & new friends who enjoy what they do. Recording their debut in 2005 for Matador Records, Brightblack Morning Light's slow-motion, blissed out, shamanistic music is unforgettable and hypnotic: think lush, sensual, woozy soundscapes tinged with soul, blues, gospel and other southern sounds, harking back to Shineywater's Alabama roots. For this tour Brightblack Morning Light will consist of Shineywater with two accompanists: Danielle Stech-Homsy (keyboards/vocals) who will also perform a solo set as Rio en Medio, and percussionist Cannupa.
Rio en Medio (Spanish for river in between) is the pseudonym of singer and baritone ukulelist Danielle Stech-Homsy. Born in the high desert of New Mexico, Danielle began to record and perform her own compositions. Working independently and in secret, she created a collection of collage-like songs incorporating found sounds and electronic programming, lifting texts from disparate sources, and evoking traditional/folk song structure, themes and melodies. As chance would have it, a friend passed on the unique, hand-made record to Devendra Banhart who soon requested to release it on his label (Gnomonsong). Since her debut release in early 2007, Danielle has performed and worked with artists such as Grizzly Bear, CocoRosie, Patrick Wolf and Vashti Bunyan. Her delicate, fragmented songs feature a sparse and haunting trio of baritone ukulele, subtly harmonized vocals and electronic or sampled soundscapes, evoking the spun poetry of ancient folk lullabies.
