News/Mp3: New Australian Music - Introducing Mountain Static

Mountain Static is the new project of Melbourne based musician Simon Gibbs.
First single ‘Warning Song’ is taken from the debut album Research, to be released in May 2011 via Inertia Distribution.
Former singer and multi-instrumentalist in TTT (Tic Toc Tokyo), Mountain Static was born from a need to experiment with instrumentation but at the same time maintain a keen sense of melody. As Mountain Static, Gibbs creates songs that are moved by an emotion rather than a cerebral response. Taking its lead from folk art and sacred music, the record explores themes of exile, migration and return; and what it means to travel and engage with the landscape.
Recorded and produced by noted Melbourne producer and live engineer Nao Anzai (Laura, Kes Trio), first single ‘Warning Song’ features multiple harmonies, scratchy organ and layered percussion.
In anticipation of the release of his debut effort Research, Mountain Static will play a single launch in Melbourne, with interstate album launches to follow. Catch Mountain Static at The Grace Darling in Melbourne on Friday 22 April, where he will be backed by the Mountain Static Group - Daphne Shum (Rat vs Possum), Oliver Hunter (o+o) and Marty Umanski (Gosteleradio).
